Oak Mexicano Doors

A Mexicano door is a contemporary internal door defined by its vertical detailing: a run of grooved lines worked down the face, giving a clean, linear look. There are no raised panels or mouldings, just straight, even lines, which is what makes it read as modern and understated. Made in oak, it brings warmth and grain to that simple face, so it settles easily into a modern kitchen, a hallway or a living room, and works just as well softening a more traditional room.

The linear panel design

The vertical lines are what mark the Mexicano out. They run evenly down the door, giving it a calm, balanced rhythm without the shadow and detail of a panelled period door. It is one of the most popular contemporary styles for that reason: it is simple, it stays consistent from door to door through a house, and it lets the oak grain do the talking.

Glazed and fire rated options

The Mexicano face is offered more than one way. A glazed version sets a tall light into the door to bring daylight between rooms while keeping the linear look, and the same style is available as an FD30 fire door where building regulations call for thirty minutes of fire resistance. That lets you keep one contemporary look right through the house. Simple, modern ironmongery suits it best, and our door hardware pages carry finishes to match.

How Mexicano differs from other styles

Where our Shaker doors use a recessed flat panel in a square frame, and the Victorian and 1930s doors carry moulded period panels, the Mexicano drops panels altogether for a run of vertical lines. It is the most overtly contemporary of the styles, and the natural choice where you want clean, modern lines rather than period detail.

Solid Oak Mexicano Doors

The range runs from solid oak through to oak-veneered doors, so you can choose the construction that suits the room. A solid oak door is the same wood all the way through rather than an oak face over a manufactured core, which means it can be sanded back and re-treated over its life, and trimmed to fit an opening. Oak moves a little with the seasons, so leave a small gap for expansion when fitting.

Finishing your doors

Every solid oak door is supplied unfinished as standard, ready to seal to suit the room. Oak needs a finish to protect it and to bring out the grain. Use a suitable hardwax oil such as Treatex, which is made for solid oak doors, or let our oiling service do it for you before dispatch. Seal all faces, including the top and bottom edges, which are the ones most often missed. Our maintenance guide covers keeping the finish right over time.

Explore other oak door styles

Mexicano is one of several oak door styles in the range. For plank and country designs, see our barn, ledge and brace and framed, ledged and braced doors, whose named form is the Suffolk, along with our cottage doors. For panelled period looks see our Victorian, 1930s and wider period doors.

For a cleaner panelled modern look our Shaker and contemporary doors are worth a look, while our traditional doors gather the classic side together. Browse every style from the internal doors by style hub, and finish the job with matching door handles and hardware.

Mexicano Door FAQs

A Mexicano door is a contemporary internal door with a run of vertical grooved lines down the face, and no raised panels or mouldings. The clean, linear look makes it one of the most popular modern oak door styles.

The range runs from solid oak through to oak veneer over an engineered core. Check the individual product: solid oak doors are the same wood throughout, while veneer doors give the oak look with added stability.

Yes. The Mexicano face is offered glazed, with a tall light set into the door to bring daylight between rooms, and as an FD30 fire door giving thirty minutes of fire resistance where building regulations call for it.
