Solid Oak Skirting Boards in Classic Profiles
Our solid oak skirting boards are milled from prime grade oak and worked to the same standard as our oak doors, so the colour, grain and character carry through from the door to the skirting that runs around the room. Prime grade keeps knots, sapwood and colour variation to a minimum, which gives you a cleaner, more consistent board along every wall. Because each board is oak all the way through rather than a painted MDF profile, the lower edge of the room keeps its natural depth and grain, and the skirting can be sanded back and refinished in years to come rather than simply painted over again.
Skirting does more than cover the joint between the wall and the floor. Run alongside oak doors, flooring, architrave and door linings, oak skirting ties a room together so the oak details read as one considered finish rather than a set of separate elements. The grain and tone pick up the wider oak already in the room, which is why most customers match the skirting profile and finish to the detailing on their doors and architrave rather than choosing it in isolation.
Choose Your Skirting Profile
The profile is the shaped top edge of the board, and it sets the character of the finish more than any other choice you make. Simpler, squarer profiles suit cleaner, more contemporary interiors, while the more moulded profiles sit comfortably in period and traditional rooms, especially where the doors, architrave or cornicing already carry similar detailing. Each profile below is a solid oak board in its own right, sold by height and length, so you can order the exact shape that matches the rest of your joinery:
- Ogee skirting: a classic S-curve profile.
- Torus skirting: a rounded traditional profile.
- Bullnose skirting: a soft rounded top edge.
- Ovolo skirting: a convex quarter-round detail.
- Lambs tongue skirting: a concave traditional profile.
- Chamfered skirting: a clean angled edge.
- Square edge skirting: a simple square profile.
Match Your Skirting to Oak Doors, Floors and Architrave
Oak skirting works best when it is planned alongside the other oak in the room rather than chosen on its own. If you are fitting oak doors, flooring, architrave or door linings, keeping to a complementary profile and the same finish helps the whole scheme feel deliberate and consistent from the floor up to the door head. It pairs naturally with our oak architrave and oak door linings, so the detailing carries around the doorway, and unfinished boards can be sealed and protected with Treatex internal oils in a tone that suits the rest of the room.
Oak Veneer Skirting Options
Alongside the solid oak profiles, the range includes oak veneer skirting for projects where a very uniform appearance matters more than solid construction. An oak veneer board uses an oak-veneered surface over a stable MDF core, which keeps the face looking consistent from board to board and right across a whole floor or home. Solid oak, by contrast, is oak throughout, with the natural variation in grain and colour that comes with a worked hardwood. Both give an oak finish at skirting level, so the decision usually comes down to whether you want the consistency of veneer or the depth and longevity of solid oak:
- Shaker oak veneer skirting: a flat, square-shouldered modern profile.
- Traditional oak veneer skirting: a moulded period profile.
- Half splayed oak veneer skirting: a clean angled-top profile.
Why Choose UK Oak Doors for Oak Skirting
Oak is what we do, from doors and frames through to the skirting, architrave and finishing details that complete a room. Because the skirting is milled to sit with our oak doors, you can specify a whole room from one place and know the colour and grain will work together, rather than hoping that boards from separate suppliers happen to match. You will find this collection within our wider oak skirting, architrave and accessories range, so whether you are replacing tired painted skirting or finishing a new oak scheme from scratch, you have a practical choice of profiles in prime grade oak with oak veneer options where a consistent face is the priority.
