Internal Doors by Size and Room

Choosing an internal door usually comes back to something practical: the width of the opening you are filling, or the room you are working on. This page brings our oak doors together by both, so you can start from a standard size when you know the measurement, or from the room when you want doors that suit how a space is used.

Internal Doors by Size and Room

Size and room are the two most practical ways to shop: start from the width of the opening you need to fill, or from the room you are fitting out. The sections below cover both, so you can come at the range from whichever you already know.

Shop by size

UK internal doors come in a set range of standard widths, in two height systems. Most homes use 762mm (30 inch), the standard width and our fullest range. Older and period homes often need 686mm (27 inch), and tighter openings such as cupboards and en-suites take the narrower 610mm (24 inch). For wider openings, 813mm (32 inch) and the widest 838mm (33 inch) give a more generous entrance, and our wheelchair accessible doors gather the widths best suited to step-free use. If no standard size fits, a made-to-measure door is built to your exact opening.

Shop by room

If you would rather start from the room, we group doors by where they go. Our bedroom doors gather the quieter, private designs, while living room doors lean to glazed and feature designs that bring light in and open a space up. For wet and busy rooms, bathroom doors focus on privacy glazing and solid panels, and kitchen doors bring together the lighter, hard-wearing styles that suit a kitchen.

Door heights and thickness

Width is only half of a door size. Imperial doors are 1981mm (78 inch) tall as standard, with a taller 2032mm (80 inch) on many period ranges for the higher ceilings of Victorian, Edwardian, Georgian and 1930s homes; modern metric doors run to 2040mm in widths such as 626mm, 726mm and 826mm. Most of our oak internal doors are 35mm thick, with rustic bead-and-butt and ledged barn styles at 40mm to 44mm, and fire doors at 44mm or more over a fire-resisting core.

Measuring, trimming and fire doors

Measure the structural opening rather than the old door, at three points, working to the largest figure, as older homes are rarely square. Our doors include a trimming allowance so a leaf can be eased to fit, though the amount varies by product and some fire doors cannot be trimmed at all. Where building regulations call for a fire door, most popular widths are also made as certified oak fire doors over a fire-resisting core.

If size and room are not how you want to shop, you can also browse by style, by type, or by material and finish. For the complete range, visit the internal oak doors collection, or start with our internal oak doors guide.
