Oak Veneer External Doors
Built for a wide or exposed opening where a fully solid door can move, an oak veneer external door keeps an oak face over a stable core, so you get the grain, warmth and colour of oak on a door engineered to stay flat and true. It makes a practical front door for the street side of the house, and round the back it works just as hard as a back door on garden, utility and side entrances.
Built on a stable engineered core
Each door has an oak veneer bonded to a solid engineered core, dowel-jointed for strength. Building it up this way keeps the door far more dimensionally stable than a single solid section, so it is less prone to the twisting and warping a wide or heavily exposed door can show over time, while the oak face is indistinguishable from solid oak once finished. If you would rather have oak throughout, our solid oak external doors are the solid alternative.
Traditional and contemporary styles
Styles run from cottage and panelled designs to cleaner contemporary looks, in glazed and unglazed options:

Finishing and weatherproofing
The doors are supplied unfinished, so there is finishing to do before they are hung: oil every face and edge, including the top and bottom, so moisture cannot get in anywhere, and keep the finish topped up over time. An oak face is happiest fitted under a porch or canopy rather than fully open to driving rain and strong sun. Frames, fitting and hardware
To complete the opening, hang the door in a matching external oak door frame with the cill included, squared and sealed so the door sits true and the threshold sheds water. Then finish it with the right external door handles and hardware, from weather-rated hinges to a multi-point lock and a handle set chosen to match the door.

Frequently asked questions
Both give the look of oak. Solid oak is worked from thick sections of oak and is solid throughout; a veneered door puts an oak veneer over a stable engineered core, which holds its shape better on wide or exposed openings, so the right choice depends on the opening and the look you're after.
