Oak Internal Sliding Doors

An oak internal sliding door runs along the wall on a track rather than swinging on hinges, so the floor space a hinged door would sweep stays free to use. Everything in this collection is a complete sliding door kit: a solid oak internal door paired with its own sliding gear, sold together so you have what you need to hang it. They suit any room where a swinging door would be in the way, and they bring a warm, characterful oak face to a practical, space-saving fitting. Because the door travels flat across the wall, you can place furniture where a hinged door would otherwise need clearance, which is what makes a sliding door kit such a useful choice in a tight or busy room.

What is in a sliding door kit

Each kit brings together everything the fitting needs, so there is nothing to source separately:

• A Grade A solid oak internal door, made for internal use
• Its wall-mounted sliding track and running gear
• A smooth, quiet action across the full width of the opening

These are wall-mounted sliding doors rather than pocket doors, so the door runs across the face of the wall instead of disappearing inside it, and every kit here is a single-door kit.

Where sliding doors work

A sliding door earns its place anywhere a swinging door steals space, such as a tight hallway, a small bedroom or an en suite where there is no room for a door to open into. It also works beautifully across a wide opening between two living spaces, closed for quiet and slid open to make one room of two. Because the door sits flat against the wall when open, nearby furniture and fittings stay usable, which is often the whole reason for choosing one.

Barn, ledge and brace and antique styles

All of our sliding kits take their pattern from the boarded tradition, so the door itself is a solid oak plank design rather than a flat modern panel. You can choose a barn or four-ledge barn face, a ledge and brace, a ledge with optional braces, or an antique reproduction, each built from solid oak boards on ledges. Sliding door or pocket door?

A pocket door disappears into a cavity built inside the wall, which means opening up the wall to fit it. These oak sliding door kits mount on the face of the wall instead, so they fit an ordinary opening without any structural work. The honest trade-off with any sliding door is that it needs a clear run of wall beside the opening to slide onto, at least as wide as the door, and it closes against the wall rather than sealing into a frame the way a hinged door does.

Finishing your sliding door

The door in each kit is solid oak and is supplied unfinished, or with our oiling service if you would rather it arrived ready. Seal every face before or soon after hanging, including the top and bottom edges, which are the ones most often missed.
