An oak sliding door runs along the wall on a track instead of swinging on hinges, so the floor space a hinged door sweeps stays usable. Every kit in this collection pairs a solid oak door with its sliding track, sold together as one complete kit.

Overview to Oak Sliding Door Kits

  • Each of the five kits here includes a solid oak internal door and its sliding track.
  • All five doors are Grade A solid oak, made for internal use.
  • A sliding door is a space-saving alternative to a hinged door.
  • These are wall-mounted sliding doors, not pocket doors: the door runs along the face of the wall rather than disappearing inside it.
  • The track runs smoothly and quietly.

Wooden Sliding Doors Use Cases

Anywhere a swinging door steals space: tight hallways, small bedrooms, en suites, and the opening between a kitchen and a dining room. Because the door travels flat along the wall, furniture can sit where a hinged door would need clearance. A wide opening between two living spaces is the classic use, closed for quiet, slid open to make one room of two.

Barn, Ledge and Brace, and Antique Styles

All of our internal oak sliding doors take their pattern from the boarded tradition: the Ledge and Brace, the Barn and 4 Ledge Barn, the Ledge with Optional Braces, and the Antique Reproduction. The full swinging-door versions of these designs live in barn doors and ledge and brace doors, so the sliding kit can match doors elsewhere in the house.

Sliding door or pocket door?

A pocket door disappears into a cavity built inside the wall, which means opening the wall up to fit it. These oak sliding door kits mount on the face of the wall instead, so they fit an ordinary opening without structural work. The honest trade-off of any sliding door: it needs clear wall beside the opening to slide onto, and it closes against the wall rather than sealing into a frame the way a hinged door does.

Fitting and hardware

The kit covers the sliding gear, so the choices left are the pull and the finish. Handles and knobs covers the pulls, and an unfinished solid oak door takes oil, stain or paint; a hardwax oil such as Treatex is our recommendation. The full range of hinged designs is in oak internal doors.
