Doors made to order in solid oak

A bespoke door is built to the width and height of the opening you have, rather than to the nearest size a warehouse happens to hold. That matters wherever an opening does not match a stock size, which is more common than most people expect: houses built before standard door sizes settled, extensions and conversions where the structure came first, and anywhere a door simply needs to be taller, wider or narrower than the sizes held in stock. Every door is made to order in prime grade solid oak, and the designs themselves sit in the made to measure oak doors collection.

What a made to order door lets you change

The size is the obvious one, but it is not the only thing set per door. The design, the thickness, and whether the door is solid or carries a glazed opening are all specified for your order rather than picked from what is in stock. Because of that, custom doors are quoted individually, and the details are confirmed on the design's own product page before anything is made. Designs with a glazed opening

Several of the designs carry a glazed opening rather than a solid panel, which is the usual way to move daylight between rooms without losing the door. Those designs are grouped in made to measure glazed oak doors, where the layouts are set out in full. Most of the solid designs have a half glazed version, so a run of doors can mix the two without breaking the panel layout.

When a standard size is the better answer

If your opening is close to a common size, a stock door will be with you far sooner and is usually the sensible choice. Choosing a design

Period rooms are usually best served by the four and six panel layouts and the one over three 1930s pattern, all of which sit in traditional bespoke oak doors. Newer interiors tend to suit the flat panel and vertically grooved faces grouped as contemporary bespoke oak doors. Boarded frame and ledge doors and ledged and braced barn designs give a cottage or outbuilding look, and a door built to measure can be matched to the layout of doors already in the house.
