Solid Oak Door Fixtures and Fittings

Oak fixtures are the small solid oak parts that finish off fitting and hanging a door - the fittings you reach for once the door, frame and trim are in. We make them from the same oak as our doors, so a latch block, pair maker or weather bar matches the door it is fixed to rather than standing out against it in a different timber or a painted finish. They are the details that are easy to overlook when you place an order and then badly want on fitting day, which is why we keep them together in one place.

This collection gathers those odds and ends - the fittings for hanging and bracing doors, the parts that weatherproof an external opening, and an oak sample so you can check the colour before you commit to a door. None of it is showy, but it is the kit that turns a slab of oak and a frame into a door that hangs true, closes cleanly and keeps the weather out, all in oak that carries the same grain and tone as the rest of your joinery.

Fittings for Hanging and Fitting Oak Doors

Ledged and cottage-style doors have no stile to take a latch, so a solid oak latch block is fixed to the face of the door to give a solid fixing point for the handle and latch in matching oak. An oak brace kit supplies the braces, plugs and screws to build or stiffen a ledged-and-braced door and keep it from dropping on its hinges over time. Where two single doors meet as a pair, an oak pair maker rebates the meeting edges so they close cleanly together, which is how you turn two single doors into a double doorway. All of these are worked in oak to sit with the doors and oak door linings and frames they are fitted to, rather than a plated or plastic fitting that breaks the run of oak.

Weatherproofing and Finishing

For an entrance, an oak weather bar fits across the foot of the door to throw rainwater clear of the threshold and stop it tracking back underneath. An Aquamac compression seal runs around the frame to close the gap against draughts and driving rain, sealing the opening without a visible plastic strip spoiling the look of the oak. Both are suited to our external oak door frames and doors, where keeping the weather out matters as much as the finish. Any unfinished oak fitting can then be sealed with a Treatex hardwax oil to match the rest of your joinery, so the fittings weather at the same rate as the door they sit on.

Part of the Wider Oak Range

Oak fixtures sit within our wider oak skirting, architrave and accessories range, so the small fittings can be specified alongside the doors, linings and trim they belong with rather than hunted down separately at the end of a job. If you are unsure of the colour, an oak sample lets you check our oak against your floor, walls and existing joinery before you order. And for a decorative finish on a feature wall, see our oak wall panelling.

Frequently asked questions

Ledged and cottage-style doors have no stile to screw a latch or handle into. A solid oak latch block is fixed to the door to give a solid fixing point for the ironmongery, in oak that matches the door.

A pair maker rebates the meeting edges of two single doors so they close together neatly as a pair, which is how you make a double doorway from two single oak doors.

An oak weather bar fits across the foot of an external door to throw rainwater clear of the threshold and help keep the weather out. It is used with external doors alongside a door seal.
