Oak Cottage Doors
People choose cottage internal doors for their traditional plank-style look, but the construction behind the door matters just as much as the design. This collection centres on solid oak cottage doors, made from hardwood oak in prime grade and rustic grade options, alongside oak veneer designs.
Prime grade oak gives a cleaner, more consistent appearance, while rustic grade brings more natural variation for a stronger country look. Both keep the colour, grain and character that make oak such a good choice for traditional interiors.
Traditional oak construction and plank styles
The solid oak doors here include bead-and-butt profile planks for a classic cottage look, and V-groove profile planks for a more contemporary take on the same style. Many also use plug-and-screw construction, a tried-and-tested method that supports a stronger build and keeps the traditional detail of a classic oak door.
Solid oak and oak veneer
For a more modern take on a traditional door, the range also includes oak veneer designs. These keep the oak look and plank detailing while offering a wider choice of glazed doors and fire-rated options, useful where you want more light between rooms or need a matching fire door.
Finishing your cottage door
Unfinished doors should be sealed before use and prefinished doors arrive ready to hang. Seal any cut or trimmed edge with a suitable hardwax oil such as Treatex or Osmo, and our door treatments and maintenance guide cover day-to-day care.
Related oak door styles
Cottage doors sit alongside our other plank and rustic styles: barn, ledge and brace, frame and ledge and Suffolk doors.
For panelled period looks, see our Victorian, 1930s and wider period doors. For cleaner panelled and modern styles, browse our Shaker, Mexicano and contemporary doors, while our traditional doors bring the classic side together.
Browse the whole range from the internal doors by style hub, and finish the job with matching door handles and hardware.
Cottage doors - common questions
A ledged door has horizontal ledges across the back only. A ledge and brace door adds diagonal braces between the ledges, which stops the door dropping on the hinge side over time.
Yes. Cottage doors come in standard UK sizes (1981 x 686 / 762 / 838) and hang in standard frames with the correct type of hinges.
Our internal cottage doors are not designed for external use. For external cottage-style doors see our solid oak external doors range.
