Mexicano Contemporary Half Unglazed Solid Oak Door

The Mexicano Contemporary Half Unglazed Solid Oak Door brings the clean, contemporary Mexicano look with an opening ready for glass in the upper half. It is one of our oak Mexicano doors and part of our modern oak internal doors, suiting a modern home while adding a modern touch to a traditional one, letting light pass between rooms once glazed.

It is handcrafted from solid oak throughout, the same wood all the way through rather than an oak face over a manufactured core, so the grain runs warm and vibrant across the face and every door is a little different. It is built from prime Grade A oak, graded for an even colour and a cleaner, straighter grain, and the boards carry the vertical grooves that mark the Mexicano style.

The door is made from several pieces of oak laminated together rather than a single slab, a traditional way of building a solid oak door that keeps it stable and helps it resist twisting as the seasons change. The lower section has a centre panel that floats within a mortice and tenon frame, so the oak can move naturally without splitting, and the frame keeps the whole door square and solid.

Being solid oak all the way through, the door can be sanded back and re-treated over its life, and trimmed a little to fit an opening. Oak moves slightly with the seasons, so leave a small gap for expansion when fitting. It arrives pre-sanded and is straightforward to hang, and for an opening outside the standard range it is also available made to measure.

The glazing is not supplied, so you can match it to your room, whether clear, obscured or patterned glass. The beading is supplied in loose lengths, ready to cut and fit once the glass is in. The clean face pairs well with contemporary ironmongery, from satin nickel to black hardware, which you can match on our door hardware pages.

It is supplied sanded but unfinished, so you can choose a finish to suit your furnishings and flooring. Use a suitable hardwax oil, such as one from our door treatments, or add our in-house oiling service to have it treated before delivery. Seal every face, including the top and bottom edges, before hanging.

If you choose to have your solid oak product prefinished, when installing door fittings and/or trimming the door size, be sure to treat newly exposed surfaces with a Hardwax oil to reseal those areas. The doors displayed on our website vary in appearance due to the different finishes being used by ourselves and customers alike; in addition to the natural qualities of the wood, this will also contribute to the door’s appearance. All hinges, handles, levers, and door accessories are for illustration purposes only and sold separately. We cannot guarantee an exact match to images used across our door product imagery for the reasons stated above.

What finish would you recommend on this door?

We recommend using a suitable hardwax oil to protect the door against the elements and everyday use. Most paints, stains and standard varnishes are unsuitable for this purpose and their use will most likely void the warranty.

What is the difference between a solid oak door and an oak veneer door?

A solid oak door is made from solid oak throughout rather than a thin oak veneer over an engineered core. This gives it a substantial feel, natural variation and long-lasting character, making it a natural choice if you want authentic oak in your home.

Delivery Information

Because it’s important that our products get to you in perfect condition and on time, we only work with trusted, reliable delivery companies who have an excellent reputation. To allow you to spend where it matters, the cheapest available delivery option will automatically be selected at the checkout stage. Don’t forget that orders over £750 will qualify for free shipping!

*We apply a shipping surcharge of £35.00 to certain postcodes for door orders and £25 for timber only orders, which can also add an additional 5 working days to the delivery lead time, see our delivery page for more information.

For Standard deliveries, you will receive contact from the courier prior to delivery. For Express deliveries, you will not receive contact from the courier, with the aim to avoid delays in the Express delivery.

If you have chosen additional options for your items such as prefinishing, please allow up to an additional 10 working days for delivery. This will depend on the number of in-house oiling requests and the chosen finish which will affect the number of coats and required drying time.

Generally delivery is a weekday service. Couriers may however operate on weekends during busy periods. As such, we are unable to offer weekend deliveries, but this may be offered by the courier if they call to arrange your delivery date and time. Please note that your delivery will be made to the kerbside. As such, please ensure you can move your order to a secure location.

All delivery times given are based on orders being placed before 12-midday and the lead times are from once your order has been dispatched, not placed.

As unforeseen circumstances can, on the rare occasion, cause delivery issues, we do not recommend booking any tradesmen until your items have been delivered.

Flooring Delivery

Delivery is typically 7-10 days from order date. Your flooring will normally come on a pallet and be shipped using a kerbside delivery. We will call you before delivery to agree a date that suits as someone will need to be available to help offload. Please remember that our solid oak flooring is particularly thick and therefore very heavy. 65m2 will weigh approximately 1 tonne/1000kg.
