Factory-Finished Oak Fire Doors
Our prefinished oak fire doors come with the oak faces already sealed and finished at the factory, so the main finishing job is done for you and each door arrives with an even, hard-wearing surface. That saves the time and mess of oiling the faces on site, and it gives a consistent oak tone across a whole set of doors. Each one is an oak veneer over a dense, fire-resisting engineered core, tested as a complete door, so you get the protection of a fire door and a finished face in one. They still need hanging and fitting, and any areas you cut into for the ironmongery should be sealed as you go.
Finished faces, but seal the cut-outs
A prefinished door is finished on its faces and edges as supplied, but fitting it always means cutting into the oak. When you recess the hinges, mortice the lock or latch, drill for the handle, or trim the door to size within its allowance, you expose bare material at those points. Those cut-outs and any trimmed edges should be oiled or sealed as you fit, so the exposed areas are protected and blend with the rest of the door. It is a quick job with the right oil, and our internal door treatments guide covers what to use.

Styles available prefinished
You do not have to trade choice for a factory finish. The glazed oak fire doors come prefinished for borrowed light, traditional rooms are served by the panelled oak fire doors, and the modern oak fire doors keep things flush. The full choice sits in the oak fire doors shop-all, and if you would rather finish the oak entirely yourself, see the unfinished oak fire doors.
How they are built
Every prefinished fire door is an oak veneer over a dense, fire-resisting engineered core with matching oak lippings, tested as a complete door. Most are rated FD30 for up to 30 minutes, which suits the majority of homes, and a few carry an FD60 rating for up to 60 minutes, so where FD60 is needed you will find those doors grouped in our FD60 fire doors. The factory finish protects the oak faces from day one, and sealing the cut-outs as you fit keeps that protection continuous around the door.
Complete the fire door
A prefinished fire door still needs the right fittings to perform. Hang it on the correct fire door hinges, seal the leaf with the intumescent strips and smoke seals in our strips and seals range, and set it into a suitable fire door frame or lining. Fitted together and to the manufacturer's instructions, these are what let the door hold its rating.
Prefinished Oak Fire Door FAQs
The oak faces are sealed and finished at the factory, so the main finishing job is done and the door arrives with an even, durable surface. It still needs hanging and fitting.
Only at the cut-outs. When you recess the hinges, mortice the lock or latch, drill for the handle, or trim the door to size, seal those exposed areas with oil so they are protected and match the rest of the finish. Our internal door treatments guide covers what to use.
No. Each door is an oak veneer over a dense, fire-resisting engineered core. The core delivers the fire rating and the oak face carries the factory finish.
