Description

The Ely 1SL is the UK's most popular door style with a glazed side lite, a run of vertical panels with a slim strip of clear fire-rated glass set to one side. It is an FD30 door and arrives prefinished, ready to hang.

About the Ely Oak Glazed Side Lite Fire Door

The Ely is Deanta's take on the classic vertical-panel door, the most popular style in the UK, and this side lite version adds a slim glazed strip down one side to draw daylight into a hallway or landing. It complements almost any interior, old or new. Made by Deanta, one of the established fire-door manufacturers we range, it comes prefinished in an oak veneer and ready to install.

An oak veneer over a solid core

Like every genuine fire door, the Ely is not solid oak. It is built around a solid, fire-resisting core, faced with an oak veneer and edged with oak lippings. The core is what gives the door its strength, stability and fire performance, while the oak face brings the natural grain and warmth of an oak door. Because the face is a natural veneer, no two doors look exactly alike.

FD30 fire protection

The Ely is rated FD30, giving up to 30 minutes of fire resistance, and carries third-party certification approved by Certifire and the BM TRADA Q-Mark scheme. A fire door only performs to its rating as part of a complete, fitted set, so it should hang in a suitable fire-rated frame or lining, on the correct fire-rated hinges, with intumescent strips and smoke seals around the leaf. Glazed with fire-rated glass

A slim side lite of clear, certified fire-rated glass runs down one side of the door, so the glazing holds the line against fire and smoke just as the door does while bringing light into the space. The glass is factory-fitted into a tested aperture and should not be altered on site.

Trimming allowance

Being a Deanta fire door, the Ely has a generous trimming allowance: up to around 15mm can be taken off each edge, so it is straightforward to fit to a slightly out-of-square opening. Trim evenly, keep within that limit, and reseal any cut edge as it exposes bare oak.

Finishing & Care

The Ely is prefinished, so its faces arrive sealed at the factory and ready to hang, with no oiling of the main surfaces needed. Cutting in the hinges, latch and handle exposes bare oak at the mortices, and those cut areas must be sealed as you fit, using a compatible hardwax oil from our Treatex or Osmo range, taking care to keep oil off the glass. Please note that this product is prefinished. When installing door fittings and/or trimming the door size, be sure to treat newly exposed surfaces with a Hardwax oil to reseal those areas. The doors displayed on our website vary in appearance due to the different finishes being used by ourselves and customers alike; in addition to the natural qualities of the wood, this will also contribute to the door’s appearance. All hinges, handles, levers, and door accessories are for illustration purposes only and sold separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

What finish would you recommend on this door?

The faces arrive sealed, so the main surfaces need no oiling. Where you cut in the hinges, latch or handle, seal those freshly exposed edges with a compatible hardwax oil, keeping it off the glass. Most paints, stains and standard varnishes are unsuitable and can void the warranty.

Is this door fire-rated?

Yes. It is rated FD30 for up to 30 minutes of fire resistance and is Certifire and BM TRADA Q-Mark certified, with fire-rated glass in the side lite. It only performs to that rating as part of a complete fitted set, so use a fire-rated frame or lining, fire-rated hinges and intumescent strips and smoke seals.

For Standard deliveries, you will receive contact from the courier prior to delivery. For Express deliveries, you will not receive contact from the courier, with the aim to avoid delays in the Express delivery.

If you have chosen additional options for your items such as prefinishing, please allow up to an additional 10 working days for delivery. This will depend on the number of in-house oiling requests and the chosen finish which will affect the number of coats and required drying time.

Generally delivery is a weekday service. Couriers may however operate on weekends during busy periods. As such, we are unable to offer weekend deliveries, but this may be offered by the courier if they call to arrange your delivery date and time. Please note that your delivery will be made to the kerbside. As such, please ensure you can move your order to a secure location.

All delivery times given are based on orders being placed before 12-midday and the lead times are from once your order has been dispatched, not placed.

As unforeseen circumstances can, on the rare occasion, cause delivery issues, we do not recommend booking any tradesmen until your items have been delivered.

Flooring Delivery

Delivery is typically 7-10 days from order date. Your flooring will normally come on a pallet and be shipped using a kerbside delivery. We will call you before delivery to agree a date that suits as someone will need to be available to help offload. Please remember that our solid oak flooring is particularly thick and therefore very heavy. 65m2 will weigh approximately 1 tonne/1000kg.
