Wide 838mm (33 Inch) Fire Doors
At 838mm, or 33 inches, this is the widest standard leaf we stock, chosen for larger rooms, main hallways and openings where a broader door changes how a space feels. It is also the width people reach for when they want a more generous, accessible opening, since a wider leaf gives more clear space once the frame and stops are accounted for. Every door here is one of our oak fire doors in an 838mm width, an oak veneer over a dense, fire-resisting engineered core.
How these doors are constructed
These doors are made by established fire-door manufacturers such as Deanta, LPD and JB Kind, and share the build common to all real fire doors: a fire-resisting core beneath an oak veneer, with oak lippings to the edges. The core provides the certification and the oak face the finish. Most are FD30, giving up to 30 minutes of protection; where a 60-minute door is specified, our FD60 fire doors meet that requirement.
A wider leaf for larger openings
Because 838mm suits bigger rooms and busier thoroughfares, it works well for open-plan spaces, main reception rooms and wider landings. If you are matching doors across a home, check the actual opening, as a 33 inch leaf needs a correspondingly sized structural opening once the frame is added. Where you want to bring light through a wide opening, our glazed fire doors are available in this width.
- Panelled designs for larger traditional rooms
- Modern flush and grooved faces for open-plan spaces
- Glazed doors for wide, light-sharing openings
- Prefinished or unfinished to suit your fitting plan
Prefinished or unfinished
Doors in this width are supplied both prefinished and unfinished. A prefinished door arrives with sealed faces and is quicker to hang, but the hinge, latch and handle cut-outs you make expose bare oak that must be sealed as you fit. An unfinished door lets you match a tone across the house, though every face and edge should be treated before use, as set out in our internal door treatments guide.
Completing the fire doorset
A fire door only reaches its rating as a complete, fitted set. It needs a suitable fire door frame or lining sized to the opening. A wider, heavier leaf like this is usually hung on three fire-rated hinges, sometimes four, and intumescent strips and smoke seals close the gaps around the door as heat builds.
838mm (33 Inch) Fire Door FAQs
No. Like all genuine fire doors, each 838mm door has a dense, fire-resisting engineered core finished with an oak veneer and oak lippings. The core provides the fire rating while the oak face gives the natural grain of an oak door.
838mm is 33 inches, the widest standard internal door leaf. It suits larger rooms and wider openings rather than typical bedroom doorways.
A wider leaf gives a more generous clear opening, which can help with access, though the exact clear width depends on the frame and how far the door opens. Check the specific requirement for your project against current guidance.
