How These Fire Doors Are Built
These doors are made by established fire-door manufacturers such as Deanta, LPD and JB Kind, and share the build common to every real fire door: a fire-resisting core beneath an oak veneer, edged with oak lippings. The core provides the certification and the oak face the finish, so even the widest leaf is a veneer over a core rather than solid oak. Most are FD30, giving up to 30 minutes of protection; where a 60 minute door is specified, our FD60 fire doors meet that requirement.
Hanging a Wider, Heavier Leaf
A fire door only reaches its rating as a complete, fitted set, and a leaf this size is the heaviest of the range. It hangs in a suitable fire door frame or lining, usually on three fire-rated hinges and sometimes four to carry the weight, with intumescent strips and smoke seals closing the gaps as heat builds. On finishing, a prefinished door seals at the factory and hangs faster, though its cut-outs must be sealed as you fit, while an unfinished door lets you match a tone across the house once every face and edge is treated, as set out in our internal door treatments guide.
