Description

Cambridge Oak Fire Door

The Cambridge is an unfinished oak fire door that takes a 1930s classic and brings it up to date, with an understated, elegant face that settles into period and contemporary rooms alike. It is one of our 1930s oak doors, and because it is supplied ready to finish you can oil or wax it to the exact tone you want. Like every genuine fire door it is not solid oak: it is built around a solid, fire-resisting core, faced with an oak veneer and edged with oak lippings, so the core delivers the fire performance while the veneer brings natural oak grain and warmth.

It is rated FD30, tested to resist the spread of fire for up to 30 minutes, and third-party certified under the BM TRADA Q-Mark scheme. A fire door only performs to its rating as part of a complete fitted set, so it should hang in a suitable fire-rated frame or lining, on fire-rated hinges, with intumescent strips and cold smoke seals around the leaf. Hang it on three hinges as a minimum so the door sits and closes correctly.

The door is supplied at 44mm thick with a generous trimming allowance, up to 30mm in total off the width and the height for a clean fit. It sits neatly against oak skirting and architrave in the same tone. The veneer is FSC certified and the door carries a 10 year guarantee against manufacturing defects.

It takes a lever handle and standard fire-door ironmongery, so you can match the fittings from our door handles and hardware. Because the face is a natural veneer, no two doors look exactly alike.

The Cambridge is supplied unfinished and lightly sanded, so it must be treated before use: seal every face and every edge, including the top and bottom, with a suitable hardwax oil, and treat the hinge, latch and handle cut-outs and any trimmed edges as you fit. A first finish left off will not wear well and should be refreshed periodically. Our door treatments cover what to use, and the maintenance guide explains keeping it topped up.
