Solid Oak Architrave to Frame Your Doorways

Architrave is the moulding that runs around a door opening, sitting over the joint where the door lining meets the plaster and giving the doorway a clean, defined outline. Because doors line up along a hallway or landing, it is one of the most repeated details in a home, so working it in oak sets the tone for the whole circulation space rather than just a single door. Ours is milled from prime grade oak to the same colour and grain as our oak doors, so the frame and the door it surrounds read as one piece instead of two.

Each set is worked from oak throughout rather than a wrapped MDF profile, so the moulding holds a crisp edge where it catches the light and can be sanded back and refinished in future rather than painted over. It is supplied to suit single and double doorways and is designed to go in with a matching oak lining, so the whole surround around the opening is specified and fitted together.

Match the Profile to Your Doors

The profile is the moulded face you see around the opening, and it works best when it echoes the doors and skirting rather than standing apart from them. Deeper, moulded profiles suit period and traditional oak doors, while a square or chamfered face sits more comfortably with shaker and contemporary styles. Each profile is a solid oak set you can order for a single or double doorway:

Architrave and Linings: the Complete Door Surround

Architrave and the door lining work as a pair. The lining boxes out the thickness of the opening and the architrave trims the edge where it meets the wall, so specifying both together gives you a complete oak surround in one go. Pair your architrave with matching oak door linings, carry the same detailing down to the floor with oak skirting boards, and seal any unfinished oak with Treatex internal oils once it is fitted.

Oak Veneer Architrave Sets

Where a perfectly even face matters more than solid construction, the range also includes prefinished oak veneer architrave sets. These wrap an oak veneer over a stable MDF core, so the face stays uniform from one doorway to the next, whereas solid oak shows the natural grain movement of a worked hardwood. Both finish the opening in oak:

Fitting Oak Architrave

Architrave is mitred at the top corners so the moulding runs continuously around the head of the door, which is the main difference from fixing a straight length of skirting. Our guide on how to fit solid oak architrave covers measuring the reveal, cutting the mitres and fixing the set, and boards can be oiled before fitting to make the finishing easier.

Why Oak Architrave from UK Oak Doors

Because we make oak doors first, our architrave is cut to match them, so the surround around each opening carries the same oak as the door it frames rather than a near-miss from a separate supplier. It sits within our wider oak skirting, architrave and accessories range, so doors, linings, architrave and skirting can all be specified as one coordinated set.
