Solid Oak V-Groove Barn Door

Available in a range of finishes and sizes, this Solid Oak V-Groove Barn Door is perfect for someone looking for a classic style door for their period home. Made from Grade A solid oak, it has an even, refined face that brings real character to a room while keeping clean, traditional lines. The flat-fronted barn look sits well in a cottage or a barn conversion, and just as comfortably in a more modern interior.

Like all our oak barn doors, this door is handmade from 100% solid oak and made to a substantial 44mm thickness. It is constructed with fixed-width vertical boards and three horizontal ledges, with no diagonal braces, which gives it the solid, flat-fronted barn face. The boards are finished with a crisp V-groove profile that adds depth and a shadow line across the face.

As a Grade A door, the oak is graded for an even colour and straight grain with minimal knotting. That makes it a good match for a formal room or a painted scheme, where a cleaner, more uniform face is wanted. Because it is a prime grade door, the boards are cut to equal widths, so the grooves sit evenly across the face. Being solid oak all the way through, rather than a veneer over a manufactured core, it can be sanded back and re-treated over its life, and trimmed a little to fit an opening. Oak moves slightly with the seasons, so leave a small gap for expansion when fitting.

A barn door like this suits traditional T-hinges, the long strap hinge that runs across the ledges and matches the plain board face, though the clean V-groove face also takes a more contemporary handle if you prefer. This door is supplied pre-sanded and unfinished, so you can give it the look that best matches your home. Oak needs a finish to protect it and bring out the grain, so use a suitable hardwax oil such as Treatex and seal all faces before hanging, including the top and bottom edges, which are the ones most often missed. If you would rather it arrived finished, our in-house oiling service does that for you before delivery.

Please note that all of our solid oak products (unless otherwise stated) are initially unfinished. If you choose to have your solid oak product prefinished, when installing door fittings and/or trimming the door size, be sure to treat newly exposed surfaces with a Hardwax oil to reseal those areas. The doors displayed on our website vary in appearance due to the different finishes being used by ourselves and customers alike; in addition to the natural qualities of the wood, this will also contribute to the door’s appearance. All hinges, handles, levers, and door accessories are for illustration purposes only and sold separately. We cannot guarantee an exact match to images used across our door product imagery for the reasons stated above.

Is this door solid oak?

Yes. This door is 100% solid oak throughout, rather than an oak veneer over an engineered core.

Does this door come with a frame?

Door frames and linings are not included unless they are specifically listed in the product details. Compatible frames or linings should be ordered separately where required.

What finish would you recommend on this door?

We recommend using a suitable hardwax oil to protect the door against the elements and everyday use. Most paints, stains and standard varnishes are unsuitable for this purpose and their use will most likely void the warranty.

What is the difference between rustic and prime grade oak?

Rustic oak generally has more visible knots and natural character, while prime grade oak is usually cleaner and more uniform in appearance.

Delivery Information

Because it’s important that our products get to you in perfect condition and on time, we only work with trusted, reliable delivery companies who have an excellent reputation. To allow you to spend where it matters, the cheapest available delivery option will automatically be selected at the checkout stage. Don’t forget that orders over £750 will qualify for free shipping!

*We apply a shipping surcharge of £35.00 to certain postcodes for door orders and £25 for timber only orders, which can also add an additional 5 working days to the delivery lead time, see our delivery page for more information.

For Standard deliveries, you will receive contact from the courier prior to delivery. For Express deliveries, you will not receive contact from the courier, with the aim to avoid delays in the Express delivery.

If you have chosen additional options for your items such as prefinishing, please allow up to an additional 10 working days for delivery. This will depend on the number of in-house oiling requests and the chosen finish which will affect the number of coats and required drying time.

Generally delivery is a weekday service. Couriers may however operate on weekends during busy periods. As such, we are unable to offer weekend deliveries, but this may be offered by the courier if they call to arrange your delivery date and time. Please note that your delivery will be made to the kerbside. As such, please ensure you can move your order to a secure location.

All delivery times given are based on orders being placed before 12-midday and the lead times are from once your order has been dispatched, not placed.

As unforeseen circumstances can, on the rare occasion, cause delivery issues, we do not recommend booking any tradesmen until your items have been delivered.

Flooring Delivery

Delivery is typically 7-10 days from order date. Your flooring will normally come on a pallet and be shipped using a kerbside delivery. We will call you before delivery to agree a date that suits as someone will need to be available to help offload. Please remember that our solid oak flooring is particularly thick and therefore very heavy. 65m2 will weigh approximately 1 tonne/1000kg.
