Solid Oak 3 Ledge Unglazed Rustic Bead and Butt Cottage Door

This Solid Oak 3 Ledge Rustic Bead and Butt Cottage Door is a plank door with an opening for glass, supplied unglazed and ready for your own. It is one of our oak barn doors, built from upright oak boards held by three horizontal ledges, with no diagonal braces, and an aperture that lets light pass between rooms once glazed.

It is made from specially kiln-dried rustic oak. Rustic grade keeps the knots, shakes and natural colour movement that give the door its character, and nail holes are visible in the face, which you can fill if you prefer. Because every board is different, no two doors are exactly alike, and that natural variation is part of the appeal in an older or rural property.

The boards are finished with a bead and butt profile, where a rounded bead runs along each joint for a softer, traditional line. It is worked into the same solid oak boards, so it adds character to the face without changing how the door is built.

The door is supplied unglazed, so you can choose your own glass to suit the room, whether clear, patterned or frosted. The beading is supplied loose on one side, ready to cut to size and fit once your glass is in place. That leaves the look of the opening entirely up to you.

Being solid oak all the way through, rather than an oak face over a manufactured core, the door can be sanded back and re-treated over its life, and trimmed a little to fit an opening. Oak moves slightly with the seasons, so leave a small gap for expansion when fitting.

A barn door like this suits traditional T-hinges, the long strap hinge that runs across the ledges and matches the plain board face. You can match the hinges, latches and other fittings on our door hardware pages. The door is also available in made-to-measure sizes for a non-standard opening.

The door is supplied pre-sanded and unfinished, so you can give it the look that best matches your home. Use a suitable hardwax oil such as Treatex, or let our in-house oiling service pre-treat it for you before delivery. Oak needs a finish to protect it and bring out the grain, so seal all faces before hanging, including the top and bottom edges, which are the ones most often missed.

Please note that all of our solid oak products (unless otherwise stated) are initially unfinished. If you choose to have your solid oak product prefinished, when installing door fittings and/or trimming the door size, be sure to treat newly exposed surfaces with a Hardwax oil to reseal those areas. The doors displayed on our website vary in appearance due to the different finishes being used by ourselves and customers alike; in addition to the natural qualities of the wood, this will also contribute to the door’s appearance. All hinges, handles, levers, and door accessories are for illustration purposes only and sold separately. We cannot guarantee an exact match to images used across our door product imagery for the reasons stated above.

Door frames and linings are not included unless they are specifically listed in the product details. Compatible frames or linings should be ordered separately where required.

What is the difference between a solid oak door and an oak veneer door?

A solid oak door is made from solid oak throughout, rather than a thin oak veneer over an engineered core. This gives it natural variation and long-lasting character, so you get authentic oak in your home.

Delivery Information

Because it’s important that our products get to you in perfect condition and on time, we only work with trusted, reliable delivery companies who have an excellent reputation. To allow you to spend where it matters, the cheapest available delivery option will automatically be selected at the checkout stage. Don’t forget that orders over £750 will qualify for free shipping!

*We apply a shipping surcharge of £35.00 to certain postcodes for door orders and £25 for timber only orders, which can also add an additional 5 working days to the delivery lead time, see our delivery page for more information.

For Standard deliveries, you will receive contact from the courier prior to delivery. For Express deliveries, you will not receive contact from the courier, with the aim to avoid delays in the Express delivery.

If you have chosen additional options for your items such as prefinishing, please allow up to an additional 10 working days for delivery. This will depend on the number of in-house oiling requests and the chosen finish which will affect the number of coats and required drying time.

Generally delivery is a weekday service. Couriers may however operate on weekends during busy periods. As such, we are unable to offer weekend deliveries, but this may be offered by the courier if they call to arrange your delivery date and time. Please note that your delivery will be made to the kerbside. As such, please ensure you can move your order to a secure location.

All delivery times given are based on orders being placed before 12-midday and the lead times are from once your order has been dispatched, not placed.

As unforeseen circumstances can, on the rare occasion, cause delivery issues, we do not recommend booking any tradesmen until your items have been delivered.

Flooring Delivery

Delivery is typically 7-10 days from order date. Your flooring will normally come on a pallet and be shipped using a kerbside delivery. We will call you before delivery to agree a date that suits as someone will need to be available to help offload. Please remember that our solid oak flooring is particularly thick and therefore very heavy. 65m2 will weigh approximately 1 tonne/1000kg.
