About the Mexicano Half Light Oak Glazed Fire Door

The Mexicano Half Light keeps the strong vertical panelling of the classic Mexicano across the lower half of the door and glazes the upper half, with frosted lines in the glass echoing the panel lines below. It is a modern door that lets natural light flow through a home while preserving privacy, well suited to hallways, kitchens and living spaces. Made by LPD, one of the established fire-door manufacturers we range, it comes as an unfinished oak veneer so you can take the finish in whatever direction you like.

An oak veneer over a solid engineered core

Like every genuine fire door, the Mexicano Half Light is not solid oak. It is built around a solid engineered core, faced with an oak veneer and edged with 11mm oak lippings. The core is what gives the door its strength, stability and fire performance, while the oak face brings the natural grain and warmth of an oak door. Because the face is a natural veneer, no two doors look exactly alike.

FD30 fire protection

The Mexicano Half Light is rated FD30, giving up to 30 minutes of fire resistance. A fire door only performs to its rating as part of a complete, fitted set, so it should hang in a suitable fire-rated frame or lining, on the correct fire-rated hinges, with intumescent strips and smoke seals around the leaf. Glazed with fire-rated glass

The upper half of the door is glazed with clear fire-rated glass detailed with frosted lines that mirror the Mexicano panelling below, as required for an FD30 glazed door, so the vision panel resists fire and smoke along with the door while carrying light and keeping a degree of privacy. The glazing is factory-fitted into a tested aperture and should not be altered on site.

Trimming allowance

This FD30 Mexicano Half Light has only a small trimming allowance, around 5mm on each edge (a little more on the widest size), because the fire-rated construction limits how much can be removed. Order the size closest to your opening, keep any adjustment modest, and seal any edge you trim as it exposes bare oak. It comes in a range of imperial and metric widths to suit standard openings.

Finishing & Care

The Mexicano Half Light is supplied unfinished, so it needs treating before it goes into service. Seal every face and both the long and short edges, including the top and bottom, with a suitable hardwax oil before or as you hang it, then refresh the finish periodically. Pay particular attention to any edge you trim and to the hinge, latch and handle cut-outs, as these expose fresh oak, and keep the oil off the glass.
