Flush and Contemporary Oak Fire Doors

Our modern oak fire doors bring clean, contemporary lines to a door that still has to earn its fire rating. The range runs from simple flush faces through to grooved designs like the Mexicano, giving you a current, uncluttered look whether you are fitting out a new build, a loft conversion or a refreshed hallway. Every door is built the same way: an oak veneer over a dense, fire-resisting engineered core, tested and certified as a complete door, so it holds back fire for its rated time while still reading as a warm, natural oak door. Because the oak sits as a face rather than a single slab, the doors stay flat and stable in the openings where fire doors are usually needed, such as busy landings and rooms that lead onto a stairway.

Choosing a modern door

Modern fire doors let you keep a minimal, current look without dropping the protection a rated door gives. Flush doors offer the most pared-back finish, grooved and Mexicano designs add subtle horizontal or vertical lines for a little more character, and glazed versions borrow light between rooms. The right choice usually comes down to how much detail you want on the face and whether the opening needs a vision panel.

  • Flush oak fire doors with a smooth, unbroken veneered face for the most contemporary look
  • Mexicano and grooved designs with clean horizontal or vertical lines for a little more texture
  • Glazed contemporary doors fitted with fire-rated vision panels where you want borrowed light
  • Prefinished doors that arrive sealed and ready to hang, or unfinished doors ready to treat in your own shade

If you want a door with borrowed light, our glazed oak fire doors carry fire-rated glass tested as part of the door. For a more traditional room the panelled oak fire doors take a classic four or six panel layout, and to see every style together the oak fire doors shop-all lists the full range side by side.

How they are built

Every modern fire door here pairs a dense, fire-resisting engineered core with an oak-veneered face and matching oak lippings, then is tested as a complete door to earn its rating. That engineered core is what delivers the fire performance and keeps the door stable and flat, while the oak veneer gives the grain and warmth you would expect from an oak door. Most doors in this range are rated FD30 for up to 30 minutes, which suits the majority of homes, and a few carry an FD60 rating for up to 60 minutes, so where that greater protection is specified you will find those doors grouped in our FD60 fire doors.

Finishes

How the door arrives is worth deciding early. Our prefinished oak fire doors come sealed at the factory and are ready to hang straight away, which saves time on site and gives an even, hard-wearing finish. The unfinished oak fire doors leave the oak bare so you can oil or wax it to the exact tone you want, and an unfinished door should be treated on all faces and edges before it goes into service. Our internal door treatments guide explains the oils and waxes that protect the oak and keep it looking its best.

Complete the fire door

A fire door only performs as part of a properly fitted set, so the fittings matter as much as the leaf itself. Hang the door on the correct fire door hinges, seal the gap around it with the intumescent strips and smoke seals in our strips and seals range so it holds back fire and smoke, and set it into a suitable fire door frame or lining. Fitted together and to the manufacturer's instructions, these are what let the fire rating do its job.

Modern Oak Fire Door FAQs

No. Each door has a dense, fire-resisting engineered core finished with an oak veneer and oak lippings. The core delivers the fire rating, while the oak face gives the clean, contemporary look.

Flush faces, grooved contemporary designs such as the Mexicano, and clean glazed doors with fire-rated vision panels. In short, the simpler, current styles rather than traditional panelled looks.

Most are FD30, rated for up to 30 minutes. A few carry FD60 for up to 60 minutes; where FD60 is required, look to our dedicated FD60 fire doors.
