Oak Internal Doors with Glass
Oak glazed internal doors, also known as oak doors with glass, set one or more glass panels into the door, so daylight can move from a bright room into one that has none of its own. That makes them a favourite for hallways, landings, kitchens and home offices, and for any inner room that can feel closed in once the door is shut. They keep the warmth and grain of oak while opening the space up, and how much you can see through comes down to the glass you choose. Our range runs from a single glazed light in an otherwise solid door through to doors that are glazed across most of their face, so you can let in as much or as little light as the room needs.
Choose your glazing
The easiest place to start is how much glass you want and how much privacy the room needs. Half glazed doors keep a solid oak lower half with the glass set above, which hides clutter and stands up to knocks in a busy hallway, while fully glazed doors carry glass across most of the face for the brightest, most open feel. Once the layout is settled, the glass itself sets the look. Clear glazed doors give a full view straight through, while frosted glazed doors keep the light but blur what is behind for privacy. For a period touch, bevelled glazed doors add a faceted edge that catches and splits the light. It pays to think room by room, as a kitchen and a bathroom rarely want the same glass.
Factory glazed or ready to glaze
Most doors in this range are an oak veneer over an engineered core, which keeps the face flat and even and holds its shape better than a single board across a wide glazed opening. These arrive factory glazed, with toughened safety glass already fitted and held in with neat glazing beads, so they are ready to hang once any cut-outs for hinges and the latch have been sealed. Our solid oak glazed-style doors are handled differently and are supplied ready to glaze, with the aperture prepared and beading supplied so your own glazier can fit the glass you want. Fire-rated glazed doors
Where building regulations call for a fire door, you do not have to give up the glazed look to meet them. Many of the glazed designs are also made as fire doors, built with fire-rated glass, a denser core and intumescent seals that hold back fire and smoke for a set time. You will find these in our oak fire doors range in FD30 and, on some designs, FD60 ratings, which cover the doors most homes need between a garage and the house or off a loft-conversion landing. Choosing a glazed fire door lets you keep light flowing on a hallway or landing while still meeting the rules where they apply.
Finishing your glazed door
Prefinished doors arrive already protected, but they are not quite ready to forget about, as any cut-outs for hinges, latches and the handle expose bare oak that should be sealed before the door is hung. Unfinished doors need every face treated first. We recommend a suitable hardwax oil such as Treatex, which feeds and protects the oak while letting the grain show, and you will find everything you need in our door treatments. Steer clear of ordinary stains and varnishes, which can affect the guarantee, then simply wipe the glass and the oak clean as part of normal cleaning.
