Narrow Oak Fire Doors for Compact Openings

At 610mm, or 24 inches, this is one of the narrowest standard widths we stock, made for the compact openings where a wider leaf will not fit but a certified fire door is still required. It is the width that often suits an integral garage door, an understairs or boiler cupboard, a utility or plant room, and the tighter doorways of older cottages and terraces. Every door here is one of our oak fire doors in a 610mm width, an oak veneer over a dense, fire-resisting engineered core.

Where These Doors Earn Their Place

A surprising number of the places the building regulations call for a fire door are also among the narrowest in the house. A door between an integral garage and the hallway, a cupboard housing the boiler or the consumer unit, and the understairs store are all common 24 inch openings where a certified leaf matters, so this width does real safety work in a small space. It is the one to choose where space genuinely demands a slim door rather than a standard one.

Designs That Fit a Slim Leaf

A narrower leaf carries a smaller choice of designs than the standard widths, but there is still room to match the look of your home. Panelled faces sit well in a period hallway or an older cottage, while flush and contemporary faces suit a modern utility or garage lobby. Where the room beyond is dark, our glazed fire doors carry fire-rated glass in the same certified core, borrowing light into a hall or landing without losing the rating.

  • Panelled faces for period and cottage interiors
  • Flush and contemporary faces for utility rooms and garage lobbies
  • Glazed options with fire-rated glass where you want borrowed light
  • Prefinished or unfinished, to suit how you want to treat the oak

Rated and Factory-Built

Every door in this width is bought in from established fire-door makers such as Deanta, LPD and JB Kind and built the way all genuine fire doors are, with a fire-resisting core beneath an oak veneer and oak lippings to the edges. The core is what earns the rating; the oak face gives the grain and warmth. Most are FD30, holding back fire for up to 30 minutes, which covers the great majority of domestic requirements. Where a 60 minute door is specified, usually in a larger or multi-storey building, our FD60 fire doors meet that standard.

Finishing and the Fitted Doorset

A fire door only performs as a complete, fitted set, and a narrow leaf is no exception. It needs a suitable fire door frame or lining, three fire-rated hinges as the makers' fitting instructions require, and intumescent strips with smoke seals to close the gaps as heat rises. On finishing, a prefinished door arrives with sealed faces and hangs quickly, though the cut-outs you make for hinges and the latch expose bare material that must be sealed as you fit, while an unfinished door lets you match an existing tone once every face and edge is treated, as covered in our internal door treatments guide.

610mm (24 Inch) Fire Door FAQs

No. Like all genuine fire doors, each 610mm door has a dense, fire-resisting engineered core finished with an oak veneer and oak lippings. The core delivers the fire rating while the oak face gives the natural grain of an oak door.

610mm is the metric equivalent of a 24 inch door leaf. It is one of the narrower standard widths, suited to compact openings rather than main rooms.

This narrow width suits cupboards, utility rooms, cloakrooms, box rooms and the tighter doorways common in older cottages and terraces, wherever a fire door is needed but space is limited.
