Description

The Wexford is a traditional oak fire door with a clean, understated face that suits period homes and calmer, classic interiors. It is an FD30 door and arrives unfinished, ready for you to treat and hang.

About the Wexford Oak Fire Door

The Wexford comes from LPD's traditional range, a simple and timeless oak door that settles comfortably into hallways, bedrooms and living spaces. It works in period properties and in newer homes after a warm, traditional look. Made by LPD, one of the established fire-door manufacturers we range, it comes as an unfinished oak veneer so you can take the finish in whatever direction you like.

An oak veneer over a solid engineered core

Like every genuine fire door, the Wexford is not solid oak. It is built around a solid engineered core, faced with an oak veneer and edged with 15mm oak lippings. The core is what gives the door its strength, stability and fire performance, while the oak face brings the natural grain and warmth of an oak door. Because the face is a natural veneer, no two doors look exactly alike.

FD30 fire protection

The Wexford is rated FD30, giving up to 30 minutes of fire resistance. A fire door only performs to its rating as part of a complete, fitted set, so it should hang in a suitable fire-rated frame or lining, on the correct fire-rated hinges, with intumescent strips and smoke seals around the leaf. Hang it on three hinges as a minimum. FD30 suits most homes; where 60 minutes is needed, see our FD60 fire doors.

Trimming allowance

This FD30 Wexford has only a small trimming allowance, around 3mm on each edge, because the fire-rated construction limits how much can be removed. Order the size closest to your opening, keep any adjustment within that margin, and seal any edge you trim as it exposes bare oak. It comes in a range of imperial and metric widths to suit standard openings.

Finishing & Care

The Wexford is supplied unfinished, so it needs treating before it goes into service. Seal every face and both the long and short edges, including the top and bottom, with a suitable hardwax oil before or as you hang it, then refresh the finish periodically. Pay particular attention to any edge you trim and to the hinge, latch and handle cut-outs, as these expose fresh oak. What finish would you recommend on this door?

We recommend sealing every face and edge, including the top and bottom, with a suitable hardwax oil before or as the door is fitted, then refreshing it periodically. Most paints, stains and standard varnishes are unsuitable and can void the warranty.

Yes. It is rated FD30 for up to 30 minutes of fire resistance. It only performs to that rating as part of a complete fitted set, so use a fire-rated frame or lining, fire-rated hinges and intumescent strips and smoke seals.

Because it’s important that our products get to you in perfect condition and on time, we only work with trusted, reliable delivery companies who have an excellent reputation. To allow you to spend where it matters, the cheapest available delivery option will automatically be selected at the checkout stage. Don’t forget that orders over £750 will qualify for free shipping!

*We apply a shipping surcharge of £35.00 to certain postcodes for door orders and £25 for timber only orders, which can also add an additional 5 working days to the delivery lead time, see our delivery page for more information.

For Standard deliveries, you will receive contact from the courier prior to delivery. For Express deliveries, you will not receive contact from the courier, with the aim to avoid delays in the Express delivery.

If you have chosen additional options for your items such as prefinishing, please allow up to an additional 10 working days for delivery. This will depend on the number of in-house oiling requests and the chosen finish which will affect the number of coats and required drying time.

Generally delivery is a weekday service. Couriers may however operate on weekends during busy periods. As such, we are unable to offer weekend deliveries, but this may be offered by the courier if they call to arrange your delivery date and time. Please note that your delivery will be made to the kerbside. As such, please ensure you can move your order to a secure location.

All delivery times given are based on orders being placed before 12-midday and the lead times are from once your order has been dispatched, not placed.

As unforeseen circumstances can, on the rare occasion, cause delivery issues, we do not recommend booking any tradesmen until your items have been delivered.

Flooring Delivery

Delivery is typically 7-10 days from order date. Your flooring will normally come on a pallet and be shipped using a kerbside delivery. We will call you before delivery to agree a date that suits as someone will need to be available to help offload. Please remember that our solid oak flooring is particularly thick and therefore very heavy. 65m2 will weigh approximately 1 tonne/1000kg.
