Description

Handmade to an exacting standard, the OX-Bow External Solid Oak Door brings real cottage character and a touch of class to any entrance, whether the setting is contemporary or traditional.

About the OX-Bow External Oak Door

This is a door that suits its surroundings. Its cottage styling works beautifully on period, country and listed properties, and the natural oak sits happily against all sorts of brickwork. It's crafted to a high standard throughout, so it looks the part from the first day and keeps its character for years.

Natural oak tones and grain

Made from 100% solid oak, the OX-Bow shows off the timber at its best. The subtle tones of the oak carry a delicate graining, while the more elaborate knots draw the eye and give the door its character. It's genuine solid oak throughout rather than a veneer over a core, so no two doors are quite the same.

Braced board construction

The door is built from solid vertical oak boards, supported on the back by thick, cross-shaped panelling. It's this bracing that gives the OX-Bow its reassuring solidity: looking out from inside, you get a real sense of safety, and the door is easily thick enough to take proper security locks.

Room for a letterbox

The OX-Bow's design, and the position of the ledges on the back, let you create a neatly placed aperture for a letterbox. If you'd like to fit one, our guide to fitting a letterbox walks you through it.

Glazing

The OX-Bow is supplied unglazed, so the glazing is yours to choose. Pick a glass style that best matches the look you're after, from clear to obscured or something more decorative; it only adds to the dramatic impact the door gives the front of your home. As the glass is supplied separately, please confirm the exact aperture size once your door has arrived before ordering it.

Sizes

The door is 44mm thick and made in one standard size (1981 × 838mm, or 6'6" × 2'9"). If you need a different size, we make these to order as a bespoke door; just contact our sales team and they'll talk through your requirements.

Finishing & Care

Like any solid oak external door, the OX-Bow is happiest fitted somewhere sheltered, under a porch or canopy, and away from constant direct sun or driving rain. It's supplied unfinished, so it will need a treatment made for external use before it goes up; we recommend the Impranol range for external doors.

Oak Weather Bar

We also supply a matching Oak Weatherbar, which will be needed if the door is open to the elements. It's sold separately, as not everyone needs one, for example if the door sits within an enclosed porch. Click here for Oak Weatherbars.

Our external doors must be treated before being hung, retreated every six months and kept dry at all times through the use of a canopy or similar. For full guidelines, please visit our External Door Protection Page.

Important Information

Please note that all of our solid oak products (unless otherwise stated) are initially unfinished. If you choose to have your solid oak product prefinished, when installing door fittings and/or trimming the door size, be sure to treat newly exposed surfaces with a Hardwax oil to reseal those areas. The doors displayed on our website vary in appearance due to the different finishes being used by ourselves and customers alike; in addition to the natural qualities of the wood, this will also contribute to the door’s appearance. All hinges, handles, levers, and door accessories are for illustration purposes only and sold separately. We cannot guarantee an exact match to images used across our door product imagery for the reasons stated above.
