Description

A faithful 1930s design in solid oak: a large single panel across the top third of the door above three long vertical panels, made to match the character of homes built between the 1920s and 1940s.

About the 1930's Oak Door

The 1930's door takes its cue from period joinery, with one large panel covering the top third and three tall vertical panels filling the rest. It is a fully solid design with no glazing, ideal where you want the warmth and privacy of solid oak, and it sits naturally alongside internal doors of the same era. Handcrafted solid oak

Each door is made to order in the UK from hand-selected, prime-grade European solid oak, chosen so the timber is free of defects and shows the best grain and colour, which means no two doors are quite alike. It is built using traditional twin 16mm hardwood dowel joints, one of the oldest and strongest ways of assembling a door, then finished with modern tooling and adhesives. The door is 44mm thick, available in four standard sizes, and can be made to bespoke sizes on request. It comes complete with a matching oak weather bar.

Finishing & Care

This door arrives prefinished and ready to hang, professionally finished to bring out the oak's natural tone and grain. Like any external oak door, it is best fitted in a sheltered spot, under a porch or canopy, rather than fully exposed to driving rain or strong sun. Timber is a natural material and can move a little as it settles into its surroundings; the occasional minor adjustment is a normal part of looking after a solid oak door.

Although supplied prefinished, this door should be re-coated roughly every six months with a suitable external treatment such as the Impranol range, and kept dry through the use of a canopy or similar. For full guidelines, please visit our External Door Protection Page.

If you choose to have your solid oak product prefinished, when installing door fittings and/or trimming the door size, be sure to treat newly exposed surfaces with a Hardwax oil to reseal those areas. The doors displayed on our website vary in appearance due to the different finishes being used by ourselves and customers alike; in addition to the natural qualities of the wood, this will also contribute to the door’s appearance. Because it’s important that our products get to you in perfect condition and on time, we only work with trusted, reliable delivery companies who have an excellent reputation. To allow you to spend where it matters, the cheapest available delivery option will automatically be selected at the checkout stage. Don’t forget that orders over £750 will qualify for free shipping!

*We apply a shipping surcharge of £35.00 to certain postcodes for door orders and £25 for timber only orders, which can also add an additional 5 working days to the delivery lead time, see our delivery page for more information.

For Standard deliveries, you will receive contact from the courier prior to delivery. For Express deliveries, you will not receive contact from the courier, with the aim to avoid delays in the Express delivery.

If you have chosen additional options for your items such as prefinishing, please allow up to an additional 10 working days for delivery. This will depend on the number of in-house oiling requests and the chosen finish which will affect the number of coats and required drying time.

Generally delivery is a weekday service. Couriers may however operate on weekends during busy periods. As such, we are unable to offer weekend deliveries, but this may be offered by the courier if they call to arrange your delivery date and time. Please note that your delivery will be made to the kerbside. As such, please ensure you can move your order to a secure location.

All delivery times given are based on orders being placed before 12-midday and the lead times are from once your order has been dispatched, not placed.

As unforeseen circumstances can, on the rare occasion, cause delivery issues, we do not recommend booking any tradesmen until your items have been delivered.

Flooring Delivery

Delivery is typically 7-10 days from order date. Your flooring will normally come on a pallet and be shipped using a kerbside delivery. We will call you before delivery to agree a date that suits as someone will need to be available to help offload. Please remember that our solid oak flooring is particularly thick and therefore very heavy. 65m2 will weigh approximately 1 tonne/1000kg.
