Product Details

Description

The brightest of our stable tops: a large French-glazed panel that floods your entrance with light, supplied unglazed so you can fit the glass of your choice.

About the French Stable Top

If you want a stable top that really lets the light in, this is the one. The large French panel is designed to bring in maximum natural daylight, without losing the class and style of a cottage door, and you get the best of both worlds, watching the world go by with the top closed, or opening it up for fresh air. Pair it with the Solid Oak Stable Base to build a full stable door.

Solid oak construction

Like all our solid oak external doors, the French stable top is built around a solid oak outer frame joined with traditional mortice and tenon joints for superb strength and durability. At 44mm thick and solid oak throughout, not a veneer over a core, it is supplied sanded but unfinished, ready to seal in a finish that suits your home.

Glazing

The panel is supplied unglazed, so you choose the glass to suit your home; the 44mm oak is machined to take a full 20mm double-glazed unit, so it need not lose heat any more than a patio door would. Confirm the exact aperture once your top has arrived before ordering your glass.

Stable door features

Every stable door comes with a 1" rebate as standard and is identical on both faces, so the finished door can open inwards or outwards.

Sizes

Made to suit standard stable-door sizes (78 x 30 and 78 x 33), with bespoke made-to-measure sizes available, just contact our sales team.

Finishing & Care

Made from solid oak, these doors are best fitted in a sheltered spot, under a porch or canopy, rather than in areas fully exposed to direct rain or hot sun. As they're supplied unfinished, protect yours with a treatment made for external use; we recommend the Impranol range for external doors.

Oak Weather Bar

We also supply an Oak Weatherbar to match the door, which will be required should the door be "open to the elements". Sold separately, as not everyone will need one, for example if your door is situated within an enclosed porch. Click here for Oak Weatherbars.

Our external doors must be treated before being hung, retreated every six months and kept dry at all times through the use of a canopy or similar. For full guidelines, please visit our External Door Protection Page.

Important Information

Please note that all of our solid oak products (unless otherwise stated) are initially unfinished. If you choose to have your solid oak product prefinished, when installing door fittings and/or trimming the door size, be sure to treat newly exposed surfaces with a Hardwax oil to reseal those areas. The doors displayed on our website vary in appearance due to the different finishes being used by ourselves and customers alike; in addition to the natural qualities of the wood, this will also contribute to the door’s appearance. All hinges, handles, levers, and door accessories are for illustration purposes only and sold separately. We cannot guarantee an exact match to images used across our door product imagery for the reasons stated above.

Frequently Asked Questions
How should I protect the External French Door Solid Oak Stable Top for exterior use?
The External French Door Solid Oak Stable Top should be properly protected before installation and maintained regularly. We recommend using a hardwax oil to protect the door against the elements and everyday use; most paints and stains are unsuitable for this purpose and their use will most likely void the warranty.
What is this stable top used for?
It is the top section of a stable-style external door, useful when replacing or building a split stable door setup.
How is the External French Door Solid Oak Stable Top constructed?
It is built with a solid construction using multiple pieces of solid oak skilfully joined by passionate professionals.
What is the difference between a solid oak door and an oak veneer door?
A solid oak door is made from real oak rather than a thin oak veneer over an engineered core. This gives it a substantial feel, natural variation and long-lasting character, making this a premium choice if you want authentic oak in your home.

For Standard deliveries, you will receive contact from the courier prior to delivery. For Express deliveries, you will not receive contact from the courier, with the aim to avoid delays in the Express delivery.

If you have chosen additional options for your items such as prefinishing, please allow up to an additional 10 working days for delivery. This will depend on the number of in-house oiling requests and the chosen finish which will affect the number of coats and required drying time.

Generally delivery is a weekday service. Couriers may however operate on weekends during busy periods. As such, we are unable to offer weekend deliveries, but this may be offered by the courier if they call to arrange your delivery date and time. Please note that your delivery will be made to the kerbside. As such, please ensure you can move your order to a secure location.

All delivery times given are based on orders being placed before 12-midday and the lead times are from once your order has been dispatched, not placed.

As unforeseen circumstances can, on the rare occasion, cause delivery issues, we do not recommend booking any tradesmen until your items have been delivered.

Flooring Delivery

Delivery is typically 7-10 days from order date.  Your flooring will normally come on a pallet and be shipped using a kerbside delivery.  We will call you before delivery to agree a date that suits as someone will need to be available to help offload.  Please remember that our solid oak flooring is particularly thick and therefore very heavy.  65m2 will weigh approximately 1 tonne/1000kg.
