Description

Oak Brace Kit

Looking to convert your solid oak ledged door to a ledge and brace door? This kit gives you the bracing you need to make that change. It is made from the same high-quality, sustainably sourced oak, so it matches the character and warm colour of the door.

The braces are what turn a plain ledged door into a ledge and brace door. Fitted diagonally between the ledges, a brace carries the weight of the door back towards the hinges, which helps stop the leading edge dropping over time. The pieces are supplied cut with square ends, so you can set them at the position and angle that suits your door. Our guide to hanging a door on T-hinges covers which way the braces should point.

Each kit contains:

  • 2x ledges, cut with square ends so you can choose the position of the bracing, measuring 22mm x 130mm x 1100mm each

Supplied untreated, so you can finish it to match your door with your choice of oil or wax. Seal it at the same time as the door, so the colour and protection match across both.

Important Information

Please note that all of our solid oak products (unless otherwise stated) are initially unfinished. If you choose to have your solid oak product prefinished, when installing door fittings and/or trimming the door size, be sure to treat newly exposed surfaces with a Hardwax oil to reseal those areas. The doors displayed on our website vary in appearance due to the different finishes being used by ourselves and customers alike; in addition to the natural qualities of the wood, this will also contribute to the door’s appearance. All hinges, handles, levers, and door accessories are for illustration purposes only and sold separately. We cannot guarantee an exact match to images used across our door product imagery for the reasons stated above.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Oak Brace Kit used for?
It adds the diagonal bracing to a ledged oak door, so you can give it the traditional ledge and brace look. Check the sizes against your door before ordering.
What should I check before ordering the Oak Brace Kit?
Check the finish, size and fitting position against your door, frame and existing ironmongery before ordering. Select compatible fixings and matching accessories where required.
How is the Oak Brace Kit made?
It is made from solid oak and supplied unfinished, so you can treat it to match the door it is fitted to.
Does a ledged door need braces?
No. The ledges alone hold a plank door together, which is the barn style. Braces are added where you want the traditional ledge and brace look, and they should rise from the hinge side towards the closing edge.

If you have chosen additional options for your items such as prefinishing, please allow up to an additional 10 working days for delivery. This will depend on the number of in-house oiling requests and the chosen finish which will affect the number of coats and required drying time.

Generally delivery is a weekday service. Couriers may however operate on weekends during busy periods. As such, please ensure you can move your order to a secure location.

All delivery times given are based on orders being placed before 12-midday and the lead times are from once your order has been dispatched, not placed.

Flooring Delivery

Delivery is typically 7-10 days from order date.  Your flooring will normally come on a pallet and be shipped using a kerbside delivery.  We will call you before delivery to agree a date that suits as someone will need to be available to help offload.  Please remember that our solid oak flooring is particularly thick and therefore very heavy.  65m2 will weigh approximately 1 tonne/1000kg.
