Whether you’ve just bought a new home or you want to give your existing kitchen a revamp, it can often be quite shocking to discover the cost of fitting a new kitchen. So, if you don’t have that kind of money, should you just forget it, and put up with what you’ve got? No way! There are budget ideas for creating a great kitchen if you are willing to get creative.
Freestanding kitchens are very much on trend – and you can create this look by sourcing vintage units at flea markets. A nice idea is to line glass fronted cabinets with gorgeous fabric or wallpaper…
Open shelving looks fabulous and is super budget friendly as you can build these yourself with scrap wood, brackets and some paint - just make sure to put pretty things on your shelves! Transfer larder essentials into kilner jars which tend to look much nicer than the original food packaging.
Channel the trend for mismatched chairs, by sourcing various wooden chairs at car boot sales or markets, usually for next to nothing, and give them a lick of paint. You can either go for different colours, or stick with one.
With a simple pot of blackboard paint, create a fun and practical feature in the kitchen. Great for lists, favourite recipes, quotes or family mottos. Add interest by hanging cooking items or try empty picture frames – great for displaying fun drawings of family members! Pick these up at charity shops for peanuts and spray paint in bright colours.
A budget kitchen is achievable, it just involves a bit of early morning car booting, a few pots of paint and lots of imagination!
